Sanitation

Jalandhar Cantonment Board is responsible for overall sanitation of the Cantonment area such as road sweeping and cleaning, garbage lifting, waste disposal, cleaning of drains, public roads & various public places including lifting and disposal of dead animals. The sanitation section of Jalandhar Cantonment Board looks after such areas as public roads & places, waste disposal, cleaning of drains and garbage lifting. In order to provide a clean and safe environment, partitioned dustbins are placed at suitable locations for collection of biodegradable & non biodegradable waste and the waste is collected from there for disposal. There are almost 150 manpower for provisioning of civil conservancy services (Regular & Contractual). Board is also having Sewer Jetting and Sewer suction machine, other equipment required like Super Succors and JCB etc. are engaged through outsourcing agencies.

Jalandhar Cantonment Board is implementing guidelines issued by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs under Swachh Bharat Mission. Regular cleanliness drives with public participation are being encouraged. Jalandhar Cantonment was ranked as over all 10th Position in all 62 Cantonments during Swachh Survekshn-2018 and overall Best Cantonment in Public Feedback across 62 Cantonments in India by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Govt. of India during Swachh Survekshan -2019. The Jalandhar Cantonment has been declared as ODF and also re-certified for the same.

In Swachh Survekshan-2020 conducted by MoHUA, Jalandhar Cantonment Board achieved 1st rank amongst the 62 cantonments.

Door to door collection of garbage is being carried out in the whole civil area twice a day. 15 Nos. partitioned cycle rickshaws are deployed for the purpose.

Aerobic pits have been constructed at various different locations of the Cantonment in order to minimize the biodegradable waste at source and anaerobic pits have been constructed in the Cantonment Gardens to dispose the garden waste at source.

Anti mosquito & anti-larvae drives are organized from time to time.

Citizens Responsibilities

1. The citizens are responsible for handover the biodegradable & non biodegradable garbage to the waste collectors on daily basis.
2. The citizens shall not litter on public places.
3. The citizens shall not open defecate except Public Group Latrines or urinal or at any place not intended for the purpose.
4. The occupier of all Bungalow/Houses will keep their premises neat and clean.
